Specsavers County Championship Division Two, Emirates Old Trafford

Lancashire 415 & 17-0: Hameed 13*

Northamptonshire 230 & 200: Gleeson 5-50

Lancashire (21 pts) beat Northamptonshire (3 pts) by 10 wickets

It took Lancashire 10 minutes and a total of 16 balls to clinch victory on the final morning of their Specsavers County Championship match against Northamptonshire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Needing only 16 runs for victory having bowled the visitors out for 200 last night, openers Keaton Jennings and Haseeb Hameed went about the chase.

The pair had no hiccups in pursuit and Hameed top scored with 13 not out, while Jennings finished up unbeaten on four as bowlers Luke Proctor and Josh Cobb went through the motions with a result imminent.

The victory was Lancashire’s first in the County Championship at Old Trafford since September 2017 when they defeated Surrey by seven wickets. It also puts the Red Rose on top of the Division Two with two wins from two in 2019.

Today’s result now means that Northamptonshire have still only won four Championship matches in Manchester since the sides first met back in 1907.

Lancashire will be back in action on Monday when they welcome Worcestershire at Old Trafford for their final four-day game at the venue until after the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
