A Murder investigation has officially been launched after the discovery of a body in Salford earlier this morning.

Police had closed off a section of Eccles Old Road earlier this morning after being called to reports of a body in a woodland area nearby.

Eccles Old Road closed following Police Incident

Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that a body was found in the wooded area just off Eccles Old Road, close to the junction with Brentwood.

The body was found wrapped in plastic, sparking concerns of suspicious circumstances.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Clearly, we’re looking at suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body and are doing everything we can at the scene to gather as much evidence as possible.

“This is why you’ll see a number of officers and specialist units close to Eccles Old Road and why parts of the area will be cordoned off.

“I appreciate that this news is extremely alarming for people in the local area but should anyone have any information, whether that is about what happened or whether they noticed something suspicious, they need to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.

“We have a highly skilled team of detectives working on this case and will provide updates as and when we are able to do so but for now, I thank you for your patience that allows us to continue with our enquiries.”

Earlier on we spoke to Steven Gorst, a local resident who was walking by the scene this morning.

“I was just told there had been an incident and asked to move away from the area.

“There was a large police presence of at least 6 cars and an ambulance with more arriving at the scene. As i was walking past i could see the police in the woods laying down ground sheets.

“It was extremely close to the pavement so would have been quite visible to passers by.”
