Broaders Barbers are offering free haircuts to veterans and serving personnel this Friday in Eccles.
Richard Broadfield, 28, is giving free haircuts to any past or present members of the army on the 12 of November.
Along with the support of his partners, TRIM-IT, Mr Broadfield is hoping the event will also help to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
Mr Broadfield said: “It’s not the first time I’ve done this kind of thing, normally I’ll volunteer giving free haircuts at a veterans rehab unit in Liverpool. I try and get up there maybe once a month or every couple of months depending on the lads that are up there.”
Whilst it isn’t the first time he’s done this, it is the first time he will be doing it with the TRIM-IT van, which will be parked on Catherine Street next to the Magdalena centre from 9:30am onwards.
From personal experience, Mr Broadfield recognises the importance of giving back to those in the military.
He said: “I’m a veteran myself, I served with the Royal Air Force regiment for five years, so giving something back to the lads that serve or have served has been something that I wanted to do and have done in the past in terms of trying to give back a little bit, especially around this time of year because I know a lot of lads do struggle.
“Personally, I went through some difficulties when I left the military myself, I really struggled with a lot of things, so basically when I moved back to Salford the Royal British Legion helped me out quite a lot and did quite a lot for me so being in a position where I can give back now is a big thing.”
November is a significant month for past and present military alike, as well as friends and family of those who have previously, or are currently serving.
Mr Broadfield said:“Throughout the year you have this one month where people make a big deal over veterans and I think it’s really good, but I just don’t think there’s enough done to show our appreciation for our veterans and our troops.
“I think its important to show our appreciation and show that we do support them and that we are willing to give back for what they are willing to give everyday and what they have given.”
With remembrance Sunday coming up veterans and serving personnel will be showing up across the nation to honour the fallen.
He said: “That’s why I’m doing it on the 12th, to tie in for Remembrance Sunday so the lads can turn up nice and smart and do the lads that have fallen proud.”
