Cadishead Rhinos rugby league team are hosting their annual ‘Old heads vs Young guns’ game in which all youth teams mix to face off against the masters and over 18s.
The game is in its 10th year of being played, only having one year off due to Covid, and is a hotly contested game for the bragging rights of the club.
The game is run on the same day as the club’s end-of-season presentation and is a way to sign off each season on a high note.
Paul Elliott, Cadishead Rhinos secretary, said: “It’s really just a way to sign off the end of season, a celebration of what’s gone on through the year.
It’s light-hearted rivalry with good competition and a close game”.
When asked about how close the contest has been over the years, Elliott added: “The inaugural fixture the old heads won, and then over time the young lads won it.
‘If I was a betting man, we’ve got a successful u18 team, I fancy the younger boys this year.”
The game is free to attend and kicks off at 2pm on Saturday 27th of November at Lords Street, M44 5EH.
Chair of Cadishead Rugby Club, Steven Guy, spoke further about the game and what it means for the club and players.
“It’s a tradition of the club that’s been going on for about 10 years now.
“It is friendly banter, but there can get a couple of times where it can get a bit niggly”.
