This year’s Green Summit focused on delivering effective solutions to climate change, such as making homes more energy efficient and creating more affordable public transport.

Yesterday’s event was hosted by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, at The Lowry, Salford Quays.

The Green Summit is vital for businesses and companies around the region that are passionate for tackling the climate crisis.

Greater Manchester is now becoming one of the UK’s leading green regions. In his speech Mr Burnham said: “We’ve come a long way since our first Green Summit.

“We have put buses under government control, this is important so we can control the pace of change when it comes to decarbonisation on public transport and making public transport more affordable for people.

“You’ll have seen the vision for the Bee Network, a London-style integrated public transport system, hopefully, in 10 years well will have the UK’s first integrated net-zero carbon transport system.

“Energy, however, is our red rating. We haven’t really started to make a level of change that I think is needed.”

The Green Summit included workshops, focusing on what they people can do as a company or individual to tackle climate change. Some included how we make energy more sustainable, others on the Green Economy and Eco-Innovation.

Hamra Hanfi-Ali said: “The young people I’m representing today, aren’t just young people, but they are Greater Manchester’s future residents, employees, CEOs and change makers.

“So don’t just listen to the speakers today and interact with the workshops. Involve yourselves, network, work in partnership and collaborate with other likeminded influencers like yourselves today. Let’s protect the future of young people and the ones that follow behind us.”
