The Art of Banksy exhibition displaying 145 original pieces of his work is now open in Media City, Salford.

The exhibition has been all over the world to cities including Melbourne, Chicago, San Francisco, Sydney, Washington DC and finally in London before coming to Salford.

Visitor Paul Eden, from Salford, said: “It’s been fantastic seeing some of this artwork in Salford.”

Paul said he’d missed out on a Van Gogh Alive exhibition in Media City so was determined to see Banksy: “When this one came to town, I definitely had to see it.”

The exhibition provides a chance for the public to see Banksy’s most well-known work but also pieces they didn’t know existed. Paul said: “I’ve seen some new ones today that I’ve not seen before but obviously I like the classic ‘balloon girl’, I’ve got a print of that up in my house.”

The pieces haven’t been commissioned by Banksy himself, but have been loaned by private collectors.

Another visitor, Olivia Roberts, said: “I always go to Banksy exhibitions, so as soon as I heard about it, I had to come. It’s just so cool with the music, nice vibe, it’s really good, I’m really enjoying it.

“I saw about it through social media, so as soon as I saw it, I had to book tickets, to come down and see it.”

As the Art of Banksy exhibition wasn’t curated or commissioned by Banksy, it was left in the capable hands of curator Michel Boersma, who was even sent previously unseen work by Banksy’s ‘ex-girlfriend.’

There is still plenty of time if you want to visit the exhibition, it will be at Media City until January 8, 2023.
