In the first weekend of November, the Worsley Magical Christmas fair gave people a chance to start shopping early for Christmas, with a variety of stalls ran by local artists and crafters.
Held at the Worsley Courthouse by The Worsley Village Community Association in its first of many events in the run-up to Christmas.
Karen Garrido, one of the leaders of the association, said: “We always have it at the start of November because we just feel when we have it later on everybody has already bought their presents.
The association which celebrates its 25th anniversary next year, is holding many events during the festive season, including ‘The Switch On’ where Father Christmas rides down the canal on a boat.
“It also gave us time to sell our Christmas cards.”
The fair held many stalls including blankets made by Worsley local, Allison, who creates them from unwanted wool by posting appeals on the local website. She said: “People donate wool, which I then knit up and sell. I have hypertension, so I need to relax and I can’t just sit, so I knit.
“Having knitted for a long time, you don’t have to watch what you’re doing.”
Barbara Thomas has been creating stained glass gifts and decorations for 20 years, of both her own and custom designs.
“I buy sheets of glass from a factory in Liverpool. You solder them together with a big fat soldering iron.
“Then you can colour the solder to look like stained glass.”
Karen Garrido added: “The Worsley Village Association do so much for the community, we hold coffee mornings every Friday in the library, we have the fair…we do luncheons and we also try and save the green belt.”
