The Buile Hill Park fireworks display raised £415 for Salford charities on bonfire night.
The money raised will go towards the Ceremonial Mayor’s chosen charities, including Salford by the Sea: Salford Children’s Holiday Camp, Salford Loaves and Fishes and Irlam Animals in Distress.
Salford Council set up a funfair along with food and drink to accompany the bonfire celebrations on Saturday night.
Emma Humphreys, the Mayoress for Salford, was volunteering at the event by collecting donations, and was hopeful of the event’s success even with the absence of a bonfire this year.
She said: “I think they’ve made up for it by putting two fireworks displays. So they’ve got three fireworks displays instead of one big one at the end.
“They’ve got quite a lot more performances on, which they haven’t had in previous years, so I don’t think it’s too much of an impact.”
The council confirmed there would be no bonfire this year to reduce carbon footprint and associated pollution.
The Mayoress placed an emphasis on safety during the event, ensuring there is less risk of fire.
“They can accommodate for younger children, which I thought was a lot better,” she added.
