A Salford woman is planning  a sponsored swim in a bid to raise money for her mother’s care home.

Patsy Valentine, 51, from Broughton, will complete the challenge in just under a month’s time.

It will take place at Farnworth Leisure Centre, and Patsy has urged everyone to go down and support her as she bids to swim 100 lengths of the pool.

She said: “I hope to do it in under two hours but who knows.”

The Broughton-based care home offers nursing, residential and dementia care to its residents, and houses 25 people.

Though the sponsored swimmer admits she has never done anything like this before, she realised the importance of fundraising for the home whilst visiting her mother over Christmas.

Any money she raises will go towards a minibus for both the Holly and Laburnum Court care homes.

Patsy wants to help as the home has done a “wonderful job” looking after her mum.

Unfortunately, many care homes like this one have to make cuts, with 72% of people thinking care workers are underpaid, according to The Fawcett Society.

Patsy has already raised more than £200 but is hoping to hit her goal of £1,000, so any donation is welcome.

The sponsored swim will take place on Friday March 17 from 10am.

Holly Court Care home has already raised £2,500 towards the minibus by setting up a Christmas Meals event.
