“I have to pinch myself” – taxi driver giving tours around Salford from cab nominated for gong

John Consterdine is a finalist in the Daily Mirror’s Tourism Superstar awards – for giving fares a guided tour of Salford from his black cab.

John used to work nights on the taxis but since getting married and having children he started to work days instead in order to spend more time with them. In 2018 he came across a tour guide course and decided to enrol, he passed the course the following year.

When speaking about how he’s found being a tour guide so far John said: “It’s fascinating I get to meet people from all over the world and I get to show off Manchester I have to pinch myself that I get to do this.”

In 2019 John did nearly 300 tours and to celebrate he bought an environmentally friendly electric black cab, so that his customers could relax in comfort and get the best experience possible.

When the pandemic hit business stopped for John but thanks to the support from family and friends he was able to prepare for what business would be like post Covid-19, business is now almost back to normal for him.
