A medical centre in Monton has welcomed its 100th member of a children’s book scheme founded by singer, Dolly Parton.
Monton Medical Centre, Eccles, celebrated the registration of their 100th member to their Monton Imagination Library, part of an international scheme where families registered at the GP can receive a free book every month.
Originally launched as a tribute to country star Dolly Parton’s late father in 1995, the renowned scheme has now seen Monton become the first GP in England to register.
The scheme delivers a free age-appropriate book every month to children aged from birth to their fifth birthday, allowing them to build up a home library of up to 60 books at no cost.
Katie Stephan, Nursing Lead at Monton Medical Centre and coordinator for the programme said: “I feel privileged to be able to enrol our children into our Imagination Library.
“Instilling a love of reading early gives a child a head start on expanding their vocabulary whilst building relationships and self-confidence. Our parents have been so impressed by such a beneficial scheme!”
