Salford MP Rebecca Long-Bailey visited the University and College union strikers today (September 27).

The Labour MP visited a group of staff from The University of Salford, who protested on campus, in order to show her support.

After the event, Rebecca Long Bailey tweeted: “Solidarity in your fight for better working conditions and for the best learning experience for students.”

Salford Labour Councillor, Michelle Barnes, took part in the strikes today, she said: “Obviously, they (the UCU) are concerned about the disruptions for students so they just want the pay deal sorting out quickly. They do care for the students but if they’re not going to take a stand, then they’re not going to get what they want.

“Overall we’ve had lots of support from staff and students, -we had lots of honking of traffic today which was fantastic.”

Michelle Barnes also tweeted: “Great to be back out supporting our UCU comrades on their picket line again this morning a massive shout out to the lovely hardworking MP @RLong_Bailey and Broughton Cllr. Maria Brabiner for turning out in solidarity.”
