Seedley Pavillion in Buile Hill Park supports the community by offering a place for Salford residents to socialise on a regular basis.
The project runs in several areas, with the aim being to link each project together through the Seedley Pavilion and have conversations with people they may have seen in their local area.
One resident, Abu, moved to Salford from Nigeria to do a PHD in cyber security and has been coming to the croquet club for ten months, where they play every Thursday and Saturday. Every age group is welcome, which promotes the idea of community togetherness and the impact this can have on societies, with Abu himself hoping that in the future he can set up his own student croquet team.
Abu said: “I had never seen croquet in my life, the community was so welcoming and open for me because when I started coming here, my family wasn’t here with me, and I was alone and lonely.”
This community group helps people who feel they need human contact whilst emphasizing getting to know people within their local communities and areas they may not have previously been aware of.
There is something for everyone at Growth Togetherness. After they secured more funding, the allotments completed a greenhouse in March, allowing the locals to come together in green spaces and grow food as a part of the Incredible Edible network.
Mark Frith said: “Some of our volunteers have lived in the area for quite some time, and they hadn’t met a lot of the local community and hadn’t been able to talk or engage with people they had seen in the streets.”
