A Salford councillor has welcomed the extension of late-night trams to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Liberal Democrat Cllr Alex Warren, who campaigned for the change, says the move will help workers as well as revellers.

The Quays ward councillor said: “I am so glad I kept pushing for this, because it’s quite clear that the people of Manchester and Salford want this.

“Late night trams are not only a convenience but also a safety measure, catering to the needs of hospitality workers, individuals on nights out, and vulnerable people walking home alone.

“Hundreds of Salford residents signed my petition to introduce #LateNightTrams so a huge thank you to those people.”

The later running trams were introduced by Metrolink at the end of September. An additional tram service has also been added every 12 minutes between the MediaCityUK and Etihad Campus.

This additional service will operate during peak times (Monday to Friday, 7am to 8pm and Saturday, 9am to 6.30pm).
