Nowroz Limited, former operator of Golden Fried Chicken in Salford, has been successfully prosecuted for inadequate pest control procedures.
At a court hearing on January 11, Salar Bahjat, the Director of Nowroz, pled guilty on behalf of the company to the charges and received a fine of £1000 and a £400 Victim Surcharge without additional costs
The investigation was initiated by Salford City Council following a complaint received by the Environmental Health Team.
The investigation on Golden Fried Chicken located at 601 Cheetham Hill Road, found mouse droppings in areas used for food preparation, handling, and storage.
Several potential pest entry points were also identified, posing a risk of food contamination.
Following the investigation in November 2023, Salford City Council temporarily prohibited the use of the food business until appropriate pest treatment, pest-proofing work, and cleanings were done.
Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Environment, Neighbourhoods, Sports and Leisure, said: “It is crucial that food businesses prioritise the safety and wellbeing of their customers by adhering to the necessary hygiene standards.
“We will not tolerate businesses that fail to implement adequate pest control measures. This prosecution serves as a reminder to all food business operators to strictly comply with the regulations and maintain the highest hygiene standards.”
Salford City Council stated that they will “continue to conduct routine inspections and take necessary action against food businesses in breach of regulations.”
