Salford Roosters star George Jamieson has been selected for England Community Lions squad.

The Lions have named their Under-19 European Championship hopefuls, with 21 players hoping to emulate the 2022 squad in retaining the trophy won in dramatic circumstances in Italy.

George will travel to to the championship in Serbia on July 10th and is the only player from Salford to be selected.

George captains the U-18 Salford Roosters side as well as featuring in open age.

Head coach of Salford Roosters Mark Moran expressed his pleasure at George being selected for Serbia: “It’s really great for George and it’s good for the club we’re very happy for him”.

“He featured last year and its great he’s got the chance to go through the process and play again “.

George managed to raise £1,200 in sponsorship and donations after a Gofundme page reached the donation goal.

When asked about the money raised Mark said: “All the players in the squad need to raise money and we raised it quickly… it’s great”.

“He’s really excited, representing your country is the highest honour”

George has burst into the first team this season. Mark says: “He’s been at the club since 11 and he’s taken more responsibility and he’s one of the players in leadership and is now playing open age”.

The England U19 side will be looking for a strong tournament in retaining the trophy which they won last time out in Italy in 2022. The tournament takes place on July 10th for 10 days.
