Residents across Salford who care for others are invited to take part in a week of free creative and relaxing events for Carers Week.
The week celebration will take place between Monday 9 June to Sunday 15 June, with people who care for a family member, friend or neighbour being invited.
The aim of the celebrations are for unwaged carers, and raising awareness of their vital role, and ensure carers know about the support available to them.
For the national campaign led by Carers UK, will see Salford City Council support Gaddum’s Salford Carers Centre and other local organisations.
Throughout the event, it will aim to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the contribution they make to families, communities and society.
It will also aim to help people recognise themselves as carers and access the support they may not know is available.
A carer is anyone – adult or child – who looks after someone without pay due to illness, disability or substance misuse, and who couldn’t manage without their help.
Councillor Mishal Saeed, Executive Support Member for Social Care and Mental Health added: “It’s important that we shine a light on unwaged carers in our city – the people who often put their own needs last to support loved ones.
“Carers Week is our opportunity to say thank you, to raise awareness, and to let carers know you are not alone.”
Swinton Civic Centre will be lit up on the evening of Monday 9 June to mark the start of the Week alongside this year’s theme: Caring About Equality.
Activities will take place across the city throughout the week – events will include a Treasure Hunt and Lunch, as well as a Wellbeing & Self Care Session, with Buffet and an afternoon tea.
The week will finish with a celebration that will include free health checks.
Councillor John Merry, Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “Unwaged carers make an extraordinary contribution to our communities, often without even seeing themselves as carers. This week is about recognising the work they do, celebrating their impact, and ensuring they can access the support they need.”
