The Ceremonial Mayor is holding a sponsored silence to raise money for three Salford charities this June.

The sponsored silence will be Ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Heather Fletcher, who will remain silent between 11am and 5pm on Monday 30 June.

The silence will be held in the members room at Salford City Council in aid of her three chosen charities.

The new Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Heather Fletcher, was appointed in the role on Wednesday 21 May, where she selected three charities to fundraise for.

The Cllr Fletcher selected Salford Loaves and Fishes, Critchley Community Hub – Age UK, and L’Chaim (foodbank) – all of whom provide a service to the Salford people.

When she selected her charities, she said: “I have chosen three special charities that are very close to my heart. I will do my best to fundraise for them as well as increase the awareness of the vital work they do right in the heart of our community here in Salford.”

Salford Loaves and Fishes is a charity that brings together a wealth of experience and expertise working with homeless, vulnerable, and isolated people in the city.

And Critchley Community Hub welcomes people to make new friends, learn a new skill, and enjoy a speciality coffee and cake or a homecooked lunch all in bright and modern surroundings or our pleasant and landscaped outdoor gardens.

While L’chaim Foodbank provide food, clothing, and household support – while allowing people to have a safety net for those in the most vulnerable position.

Ahead of the sponsored silence, Councillor Heather Fletcher, said: “I think that staying silent will raise more awareness for my charities than words or speeches.

“It is a different approach and some might joke that this will be very difficult for me to complete. But I will let my lack of words do the talking.”

In addition, Councillor Fletcher will also host a Freddie Mercury tribute night at Buile Hill Park Banqueting Suite on Saturday 12 July. Tickets are £10 and include pie and peas.

Councillor Fletcher continued: “I have a whole host of events and fundraising activities planned for my year in office and want to do my absolute best for my local charities.

“The Freddie Mercury tribute night is another fun way to bring people together. Councillor Burch did fantastic in her year in office so I am Under Pressure, but I have One Vision and that is to raise as much awareness and money for my charity as I can.”
