Salford residents will be welcomed to a free event this weekend, as an independent mobile bar will be celebrating National Rum Day at Middlewood Locks.
The free-to-attend event will take place on Saturday 16 August and will be hosted by the independent mobile bar, Cocktail Cartel.
Throughout the day, Salford residents will be welcomed to come down to the bustling neighbourhood and enjoy their innovative and unique cocktail creations.
As a brand-new independent mobile bar, Cocktail Cartel is run by industry professionals Katie and Erik, who have been working in Manchester’s hospitality scene for nearly 20 years combined.
With a passion for supporting local independent businesses and bringing amazing drinks to the table, they will be looking to bring the community together to share that enthusiasm.
Ahead of the event, Co-owner of Cocktail Cartel, Katie Damer said: “We bought the bar over two and a half months ago now, on a bit of a whim, and we live in the area, so we wanted to give people a place to go.”
This event will hope to bring the community back together with drinks, especially after the closure of the Seven Brothers bar at Middlewood Locks.
Katie continued: “Living around the area, we have missed that social space in the community to go and get a drink.
“So, when we bought the bar, we said to Middlewood Locks, ‘Can we set up our bar here for a day or so,’ and then it has started from there really.”
Knowing the area quite well around New Makers Yard, Katie continued to share how important this will be to the community.
She added: “A day like this is really important to us and the surrounding community, as New Makers Yard are trying to build that in the neighbourhood.
“They hosted Middlewood Lock Fest earlier this year, and that had a really good turnout, so pushing that and creating that social space for people to come along to and sit in the sun will be a massive positive.
“We are an independent business, and we want people to come along and feel comfortable, whilst also enjoying affordable drinks.”
Katie continued: “The event itself will be hosted on National Rum Day, so we saw that as a great opportunity to centre the day around that — and we will be out there from 12 pm until around 9 pm.”
Throughout the day, guests will also be able to try the exciting selection of drinks, including their ‘Grown Up Coke Float’ – a cocktail that has all the punch of your classic Long Island Iced Tea.
The drink has the exciting added extras as they throw on a scoop of toffee ice cream, chocolate sauce, and sprinkles, making it dangerously irresistible.
As if the taste and the look weren’t good enough, most of their spirits are coming from local legends Spirit of Manchester, as well as Salford Rum, who will be celebrating the national day in the right way.
Residents who attend the event will also be offered pints from the local brewery ‘Track’ – a true Mancunian craft beer brewery, keeping with the theme of supporting local businesses.
Katie said: “Alongside all the exciting offers of local businesses, we will also be doing giveaways throughout the day for people who come along.”
She added: “We will have deckchairs out, and there will be grass areas for people to sit. It will be about bringing the community together.
“Hopefully everyone can enjoy the weather, sit in the sun, and enjoy a drink for the first time since the closure of the local pub.”
