World Book Day - Ellesmere High School

A new programme, B-safe, Salford has been launched for Year-6 classes, to teach children how to keep safe and make good choices.

B Safe Salford is a Year 6 Youth Crime Prevention initiative hosted at the GMFRS Bury training centre.

Salford City Council, along with their partners, have devised a full day of sessions, running from around 9.30/9.45  until 2.30/2.45.

Jodie, from the School Organisation team at Salford City Council, said: “The B safe programme is to engage children and give them knowledge and equip them for year seven moving on to high school.”

The sessions include talks from the Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire Service, the British Transport Police and the GMMA Magistrates in the community.

Salford City Council are also providing talks on youth services, E-safety, safer schools and road safety.

Foundation 92, which focuses on Physical and mental health and wellbeing, also provides a session.

The Safer Schools team have managed to secure Greater Manchester Combines Authority (GMCA) funding for 2025/2026. Transport will be arranged to get the pupils and staff to the facility.

“We are running days from September 2025 through to March 2026.

“We just want them to think about things a little bit differently. To have that knowledge to be able to go and be comfortable in school and have that knowledge outside of school as well in their communities.”

Sam, a Teaching Assistant from Summerville Primary School in Salford, said: “It’s really important because obviously they’re going into high school, so they’re at that age where they will be more independent. So if they’re friends, it’s just about understanding not to get peer pressured into doing dangerous activities.”
