Hands on experience in creative industries across Salford will be on offer for young people currently not in education or work.

The ten-week Creative Careers programme will provide hands on practical and creative workshops by each week visiting a new creative or cultural venue in Salford.

Lynsey O’Sullivan, strategic lead at Salford CEP who will be running the course, said:

“The creative sector is really well placed to offer work and opportunities because often these young people have got significant challenges in their lives and are facing significant disadvantages.

“This can be a really accessible way to do something that’s really hands-on, to do something that’s organised, that’s creative.”

Young people involved in the programme will have the opportunity to visit the BBC to see a live filming of Blue Peter and Radio 6 Music, as well as going to Salford Museum and Art Gallery to learn about jobs involved with museum maintenance.

Everyone who attends 90% of the ten-week course will receive £100.

The initiative is aimed at Salford young people aged 16-18 who are not in employment, education or training (NEETs) in order to tackle rising NEET levels.

Salford CEP (Cultural Education Partnership) brings together arts, cultural, youth and educational organisations to provide young people across Salford with creative opportunities to provide meaningful experiences and enrich cultural education.

Lynsey also highlighted how many young people already have creative skills, as she hopes the course can help harness these skills, saying:

“A lot of these young people have creative skills, they might be making TikTok videos in their bedrooms, making music, filming things on their phone and they might not know they could turn that into a career and actually use it or study it at college.”

The Creative Careers programme will run from February to March 2026 where, upon completion, Lynsey hopes participants will “think about their next steps and whether they’d like to pursue either some college training, some apprenticeships, or work experience further in the creative sector.”

Applications for the programme are open now; sign-ups and any questions can be found on the flyer below. All transport, food & support is provided.
