The owner of a Salford recording studio, which helped a local rapper rise to prominence after her online performance went viral, explained why he relocated his business to the city.

Che3kz, who amassed over 100 million streams for her viral freestyle ‘Sizzling Sausages’ and attracted national media and major music venues, was helped to break through by Studio 88 near Media City.

Darrius Stewart, the founder of the creative development space, hailed the success of the female lyricist and explained his role in nurturing emerging artists.

“Che3kz epitomises hard work, preparation and courage,” Darrius said. “She stepped into uncomfortable spaces early on and that’s where real growth happens.”

Studio 88 was created to offer a safe and professional environment where artists can explore their identity, build confidence, and develop their skills across music, media and live performance.

“When artists feel comfortable being themselves, they create better work,” Darrius explained.
“Confidence is the foundation of everything.”

The studio offers full 360 creative packages, supporting artists through recording, visuals, press kits, performance opportunities, radio exposure and long-term development.

Over the past year, Che3kz has featured on ITV,  performed at Wireless Festival, Side Winder, Clints, and attended the Mobo Fringe, alongside performing at the BBC Radio 1Xtra Christmas party.

Darrius highlighted that her early decision to take on challenging platforms was a defining moment in her meteoric rise.

“Pen Game is a tough environment, especially as a female and LGBTQ artist,” he said.

“Going from that to performing at Sidewinder in front of thousands within six months showed just how far she’d come.”

Although originally based in South Manchester, Darrius chose Salford for Studio 88 to tap into its growing creative community and proximity to Media City.

“There’s so much talent here,” he said.

“Our aim is to give artists the tools, confidence and infrastructure to succeed.”

As Ch3ekz continues to rise, Studio 88 is cementing its place as a vital creative hub in Salford helping turn viral success into long-term impact and proving the city’s growing influence on the UK music scene.
