A dental practice in Salford is now accepting new NHS patients.

Bexley Square Dental Practice was deluged with applications after it began accepting new NHS patients in Salford in December. Within a couple of hours on the Rodericks Dental Partners online booking system, all spaces were filled.

Receptionist Harley Skilling said: “We have enough space in our practice and three clinics working every day, so we can see new patients.”

A 2022 Healthwatch Salford “Big Check Up” report found that about 38 % of people in Salford did not have access to a dentist at all.

That research also indicated that approximately 68 % of residents don’t have or haven’t had access to any form of dental care.

Of those without a dentist, 25% hadn’t seen a dentist in over five years, while half said they could not find a dentist taking new patients.

Ms Skilling admitted that there can still be long waiting lists for dental care, which is a problem that is not unique to Salford.

“This isn’t a recent problem,” she added. “It’s a recurring problem around the country and dental practices.”

An investigation by the BMA in August 2022 found that 90% of dental practices were not accepting new adult NHS patients, and over 4 million people were unable to access NHS dental care due to a massive backlog left by Covid-19.

The practice is located near Chapel Street, a short walk away from Cleminson St Car Park and Salford Central, making it easily accessible for residents all over Salford. Rodericks Dental Partners has a second dental practice in Ordsall, just off the Quays.
