Salford RLFC boss Dave Hewitt has been handed a contract extension which will see him remain in charge of the side for the 2027 season.
The former Rochdale Hornets scrum half joined the newly reformed Championship club at the start of the campaign as the assistant manager to Mike Grady.
He took over the role as Salford head coach in March when Grady stepped down from the post by mutual agreement after less than three months at the helm.
The 30-year-old has led the side to six wins in 13 matches since taking charge, as Salford have climbed to 11th in the Championship.
Salford RLFC CEO Ryan Brierley praised Hewitt’s unwavering commitment during turbulent times and said he has been rewarded for improving the club on and off the pitch.
He said: “Dave stepped into a difficult situation and never looked for excuses. From day one he brought honesty, discipline and stability, and you can see the difference in the way this team plays and carries itself.
“The results have improved, but what has really impressed us is everything happening behind the scenes. There is a clear identity to this group now, the players believe in what they’re doing and there is a culture developing that gives us real confidence for the future.”
Brierley believes it was in the club’s best interest to confirm Hewitt will remain in charge, allowing preparations for the next campaign to begin early.
“Planning for 2027 has already started and we wanted to give Dave that certainty now,” he explained. “For the first time, he’ll have the opportunity to shape the squad, lead a full pre-season and continue building what has already begun.”
Brierley, a former Salford Red Devils captain and lifelong supporter, thanked the fans for their backing throughout the season.
He added: “I’d also like to thank our fans. The backing they’ve given this group throughout the season has been outstanding and it has made a real difference.”
