Smiling students at an Eccles secondary school said they were “surprised” and grateful after realising their GCSE journey had ended with fantastic results.
Pupils at Salford City Academy in Eccles waved blue balloons and beamed with pride as they collected their exam results.
The exciting and nerve-wracking reveal came after five years’ worth of studying for students in secondary schools across the city.
It marks the beginning of a new chapter in sixth forms, colleges, apprenticeships and the world of work for Salford’s GCSE and BTec class of 2026.
Across the country, the proportion of entries receiving the top GCSE grades has risen for the second year in a row and remains higher than before the Covid-19 pandemic.
A number of students celebrated achieving top grades by posing for photos in front of blue shiny grade 9 inflatables.
One of them was Kasey, who opened her envelope to find a remarkable nine grade 9s and a grade 8.
“Thank you to all my teachers who have helped me throughout my GCSEs. I am really proud of my results today,” the star pupil said.
Samantha also enjoyed a stellar GCSE results day, collecting an excellent set of results including two grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s.
“It was something I wasn’t expecting at all, I’m surprised, but it’s a good surprise!” she said. “If I were to give any advice, I would say as hard as it is, believe in yourself and don’t worry too much.”
There were plenty of other individual successes to celebrate, including:
– Khloe, who attained eight grade 9s and two grade 8s.
– Lucas, who secured two grade 8s and six grade 7s.
– Molly, who achieved one grade 9, six grade 8s and two grade 7s.
– Samuel, who earned two grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s.
“It is always a privilege to see our students opening their results and receiving the results which will be so important for their futures,” said Katie Eaton, Principal at Salford City Academy
“These results are testament to their hard work and resilience and the teamwork across the school.
“We are particularly pleased for those students who have achieved the highest grades and for those who have performed far above their expected grades. They have been a very enjoyable and positive cohort of students to teach, and we wish them all well for the next stage of their education.
“As a school, we are delighted that we have achieved our highest ever number of students achieving a strong pass in Maths and English. Thanks and credit for this are due not only to our amazing students but also to their families and our staff who have supported them throughout their time at Salford City Academy.”
