A bar in Swinton will host a series of album listening events for music fans.
Swinton Hop House is hosting the community event It’s Album Time, where residents can enjoy full listens of records and a drink at the pub.
It’s Album Time was started as a small community get together for music fans and avid listeners to have a fun social outlet and find other likeminded Salfordians.
Albums by Public Enemy and New York Dolls are among the albums covering up from 27 October.
Organiser Aaron Dawber said: “I had the idea to start it. We come in this pub often and I’ve met some good friends through conversations and talking about music, so I wanted to expand on that as an idea.”
“How it works is everybody who attends suggests three albums and then we pick three at random and listen to throughout the month and talk about it. Everybody who attends puts one in a hat basically and we pick three out at the end, the ones that we listen to for the month.”
Each event takes place on the last Tuesday of every month, with the next event due on October 27 at 7.30pm.
The Swinton Hop House owner, Ste Bowen, said: “It’s great for us just to get people together once a month and it’s just nice to see new faces coming together and making friends.
“People who live around the corner, some people get a bus here, it’s just nice to start getting people in somewhere, do something a little bit different as well, rather than just standing having a pint and talking about absolutely nothing.”
Described by Bowen as a “book club with a different edge to it”, It’s Album Time is building an audience. It already has 16 regular members and is looking to grow.
Dawber said: “I’d like to see it expand. It’s always good to have people that come, a lot of people have different tastes in music obviously, so the more people that come, the more genres we’ll cover and the more artists you’ll end up listening to.”
Bowen also said: “I would just love to see it expand. If we can get more people in, I’d like to make it a bit more of an event, even if you just stick a little bit of grub on for people, some free bar snacks and stuff, maybe do something where people might be able to get a drink if they come every month.”
