A volunteer at the Salford & Manchester RSPCA branch is walking 90 miles over a month span to raise money for the animal rescue centre.

Charmaine McCann, a centre support volunteer from the Manchester and Salford RSPCA branch, has set herself a challenge to walk 90 miles over a month. She started the mission on September 12 is and finishing tonight, October 12.

Charmaine McCann shared how she suffers from Chronic illness and Type 1 diabetes, and how this fundraiser really pushed her on what she thought she could physically achieve.

She said: “I felt like it was an achievable distance that could encourage others to try and do something similar.

“Some days are easier than others, one day I achieved 14-15k steps, other days I achieve a couple thousand.

“There has been a lot of support from those around me who have encouraged me to try and achieve 90 miles in different forms.”

The RSPCA centre has struggled over recent years due to cost of living struggles, which the city continues to face.

Due to them being government funded, the medical costs for the smaller animals such as rabbits and cats are too high.

Charmaine continued: “It hurts me to see all those animal who have been neglected and abandoned and I felt there was a need to fundraise to bridge the gap.

“There are too many animals to care for, to not do something like this.

She is urging the Salford community to donate to the RSPCA branch.

“Any donation helps, even if it is just a pound, it makes more of a difference than you think”, she added.
