A Salford police officer

Police patrols are being stepped up in Salford to protect residents as attacks on shared houses and homes mistaken for HMOs continue.

Many residents are living in fear as criminals leave a trail of damage to homes across Salford.

The most recent incidents were reported last night (October 13).

Police are dealing with what they believe to be a pattern of 25 similar incidents across Salford since October 5.

CCTV  trawls are progressing and social media coverage is being monitored by Greater Manchester Police in an attempt to end the damage and intimidation, and bring the people responsible into custody for questioning.

Lead for neighbourhoods in Salford, Chief Inspector Lee Gridley, said: “This spate of offending is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.

“No one should be made to feel unsafe in their own home and it’s not something that will be tolerated in Salford, or anywhere in Greater Manchester.

“Enquiries so far have led us to believe that HMOs, and properties that have been mistaken for HMOs, are being targeted. Officers will be on patrol across Salford throughout this week and I’d urge anyone who is worried about this offending to speak to them.”

A 13-year-old boy who was arrested on Thursday, October 8, has since been released on police bail.

People with any information which could help the police are being urged to report it to a police officer, online or by calling 101. Or it can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
