New ‘Beat Network’ map to support Greater Manchester’s grassroots music scene connects to Salford’s most loved venues.
A new ‘Beat Network’ map has been launched connecting more than 50 music venues across Greater Manchester. The map shows just how easy it is to celebrate live music in the city.
The new map, created by Greater Manchester Music Commission, the Music Venue Trust and Transport for Greater Manchester, shows how to easy is it to get to over 50 different music venues in the area using Bee Network routes.
The routes consist of night buses and trams from all around Greater Manchester, including the 50 bus route which runs through Salford.
This ‘beat network’ map makes these venues accessible to Salford and Greater Manchester citizens, making it much safer for people around the city to access gigs and support the night-time economy of Greater Manchester.
All venues on the map are part of the Music venue Alliance, including Salford venues Islington Mill, The Eagle Inn and The White Hotel.
Jay Taylor, Music Venue Trust and Chair of the Greater Manchester Music Commission, said:
“It shows just how robust, widespread and diverse our grassroots music venues are, while underlining the region’s commitment to an affordable, safe and integrated transport system that makes getting to your favourite venue easier than ever.”
Salford and Manchester are home to a thriving music scene, contributing to the over £500 million raised in the UK by grassroots. These venues are integral to the support of emerging artists.
Greater Manchester Transport Commissioner, Vernon Everitt, said:
“It’s so important that we support the local music scene and this new map shows just how easily people can access dozens of music venues in a safe and affordable way with the Bee Network.”
Having late-night transport available around the city is crucial to the safety of gig-goers and the maintenance of the music scene that is such a large part of the city’s identity.
The ‘Beat Network’ will follow the introduction of five new night time bus services, including one from Salford into the city centre, and back.
In addition, there are now night buses running every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night into and out of the city centre at £2 for a single journey.
