A 33-year-old man was arrested at a Salford address this morning (October 21) as police continue to investigate 46 reports of HMO-related criminal damage.

Police believe the damage is linked to the criminal exploitation of children.

Since October 5, police have received 46 reports of criminal damage to properties that are either houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), or properties being mistaken for HMOs.

The majority of incidents have taken place in Salford, say Greater Manchester Police. But there have now been reports of damage to other locations across Greater Manchester.

Chief Superintendent Marcus Noden said: “We recognise that the spread of damage to properties across Greater Manchester will be worrying for people living in the areas affected.

“I want to reiterate that we are taking this spate of damage extremely seriously.”

He said police were continuing to target suspects, including those believed to be using and exploiting children to orchestrate the criminality.

He said: “Today’s action means three people have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage this week. Our communities can expect to see further action from GMP in connection with this issue.”

Two men, aged 46 and 39, who were arrested on Monday October 19 have since been bailed as enquiries continue.

Anyone with information which could support the police’s investigation is being asked to report online or call 101. Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
