The community has been invited to have their say about an affordable homes plan in Swinton at an upcoming, public event.
Swinton residents, local businesses and community organisations are being invited to have their say at a public drop-in event on November 4 to discuss submitted plans for 218 new affordable homes. The neighbourhood is set to be located at the RMS Swinton site off Pendlebury Road.
The event follows the submission and validation of a planning application by Salford City Council for the redevelopment of the RMS Swinton site.
The drop-in will take place on Wednesday November 4 2026, between 2pm and 7pm at The Valley Community Centre on Dorning Road, Swinton. If you wish to attend you can just turn up within the allocated time slot as there is no need to book.
Attendees will have the chance to view the submitted plans, ask questions and speak directly with representatives from Kellen Homes and ForHousing.
The submitted proposals include 172 one and two-bedroom apartments and 46 two, three and four-bedroom houses. Out of the 218 homes, 211 would be provided for social rent, with the remaining seven offered through shared ownership.
So far, the proposals have been hit by objections from residents who were asked to share their opinions on the redevelopment plans with Kellen Homes in June and July earlier this year, with 51% saying they were ‘strongly opposed’.
The main concerns involved traffic, parking and highways, and local infrastructure and services. Sixty percent of residents also ‘strongly opposed’ the delivery of 218 new affordable homes.
Mark Waite, Director of Planning at Kellen Homes, said: “Following the submission of the planning application, the public drop-in event will provide an opportunity for local people to view the final plans and speak directly with the project team.
“The scheme has evolved through the design process, informed by feedback from local stakeholders and recommendations from Salford’s Design Review Panel. We would encourage anyone with an interest in the proposals to come along and find out more.
“Working with ForHousing, we have an opportunity to deliver much-needed affordable homes.”
The planning application has been validated by Salford City Council under reference PA/2026/1165. The application documents are now available via the Council’s planning portal.
Apartment buildings have been positioned further back from existing homes on Pendlebury Road, while three-storey townhouses have been introduced to create a more gradual transition between the highest and lowest parts of the development.
Pedestrian routes, seating and enhanced landscaping are also proposed to strengthen central public spaces.
Anyone unable to attend the event can contact the project team by emailing newhomesforswinton@havingyoursay.co.uk or calling 0161 711 0298 between 9am and 5.30pm on Monday to Friday.
