An award-winning barista is running a latte art pouring class this weekend in Salford, sharing his passion for coffee with aspiring coffee lovers.

Josh Wilson lives and works in Salford as the founder of Swan Song Coffee, where he runs the weekly class to teach people how to create images in their coffee by pouring milk in a certain way.

He has been interested in coffee since sixth form where he spent time in his favourite specialty coffee shop in his hometown, Lincoln.

Josh believes that latte art workshops are a great way of taking people’s hot drinks to the next level.

Out on the open road last week in the camper van. Always nice meeting people from other areas of the Uk. But we’re back at HQ celebrating our first sack of 60kg green coffee from @kambacoffee arriving in our training & roasting space. Many roasters probably find this laughable to celebrate this. But you have to enjoy the little milestones in life. Thanks for organising everything @miso_bowie ! Can’t wait to unleash the @stronghold_global S7 Pro on this green sack. We’ll let you know when we’re ready to spill the beans on who grew, processed and cared for this delicious coffee. Check back soon for the big reveal. #coffee #specialitycoffee #roaster #greencoffee #kambacoffee #strongholds7pro #roastedinsalford #instacoffee #coffeeculture #coffeeroasters

He said: “I wanted to aim my courses more at the public without being intimidating and heavily scienced. Latte art workshops are a really good introduction to coffee and specialty coffee in particular.

“It’s a really fun exercise and it’s passing on another skill that helps someone make a better coffee at home which is, for me, really important.”

Mr Wilson describes pouring latte art as an everyday miracle.

He said: “There’s a spectacle to it all. When you’re kind of starring at the cup and you don’t see any marks or patterns and suddenly it just appears – it seems like some miracle has happened in front of you, when really it’s just knowing little things here and there”

These little things, like the amount of froth in the milk and the angle of the jug, can make all the difference between a successful and unsuccessful latte art piece.

Josh’s company Swan Song Coffee is based at Islington Mill in Salford, a place which he admires.

He said: “Working in Salford is fantastic, everyone pays an interest in what you do and genuinely want to help you. Where they can lend a hand, people from Salford always will. The local shops and roasteries around here have always been supportive since we’ve started.

“I couldn’t ask for a better location or place to start my business.”
