Darron Gibson will be a Salford City player for another season as the Ammies re-sign the former Manchester United player in time for the 2020/21 SkyBet League Two campaign.
The Irishman arrived at the Peninsula Stadium in February this year as a free agent, initially training with Salford to improve his fitness levels before committing to the club for one year.
The 32-year-old made four appearances in a Salford shirt before COVID-19 put an early end to the season, scoring one of the penalties against Newport County to send the Ammies into the final of the Leasing.com Trophy.
And the midfielder picked up both assists in his last game for Salford – a 2-0 victory over Bradford City in League Two.
Speaking on Gibson extending his stay at the Peninsula, Salford manager Graham Alexander said: “We saw what Darron is capable of in only a handful of games towards the end of last season and we just felt he was getting into some good momentum when the break
happened.
“After having a conversation with him, I explained the situation at the time that I wanted to re-engage him but we had to wait until we got through the break.
“We know what he is capable of as a player and we are delighted to have him on board for another year to see his impact on the team; his quality and experience is invaluable not just in the senior squad, but for the younger players too.”
