Salford Red Devils head coach Ian Watson highlighted his side’s spirit, after an impressive comeback victory over Catalans Dragons saw them through to the Coral Challenge Cup semi finals.
Watson’s men came from 12-0 behind to clinch a golden point winner at the Totally Wicked Stadium – a climax that the head coach puts down to a quality defensive performance, despite Salford’s early trail.
Watson said: “That was the boys sticking with the process and backing each other to be fair.
“No one jumped out of the system defensively – they all worked for each other.
“Their attitude to D was spot on today, and that was what won us the game ultimately.”

Salford certainly made it difficult for themselves, struggling for control in the opening exchanges, but Watson was pleased with his side’s response.
“The first 20 minutes they were dominating field possession. They were allowed to build pressure,” he said.
“But I thought the way we coped with it was really good, to be fair.
“We know we can score points when we hold the ball and I thought we showed that when we got up there.”
The Red Devils are no strangers to golden point winners in big games, experiences that Watson believes are priceless.
“They’re invaluable – you can’t learn them on training fields,” he added.
“It’s got to be in games like that, where you learn to execute under that pressure.”
Salford Red Devils have been drawn against Warrington Wolves in the Coral Challenge Cup semi final.
