Irlam FC are looking to bounce back with a win in the first round of the Macron Cup, after back-to-back losses in the league.

The match will take place at Barnton FC, who ply their trade in the North West Counties League Division One South, which is the league below Irlam.

The Macron Cup is the North West Counties Football League cup competition and the draw has been done into regional groups. Irlam were drawn into Group Two.

Irlam sit ninth in the table, four points behind Northwich Victoria who beat them 3-1 on Saturday.

John Main’s men have had mixed form recently, winning two games from their last six, drawing one and losing three. This is a chance for Irlam to go on a cup run and turn their form around.

Barnton FC, nicknamed ‘The Villagers’ play in the village of Barnton at Townfield Lane. Barnton are 13th in their division, so the cup tie presents an ideal chance for Irlam to progress.

The Villagers will be heading into the match full of confidence after their last outing, running out 5-0 winners at St Martins. Barnton’s form is much like Irlam’s, winning three of their last six and losing three.

It was uncertain whether the Macron Cup was going to go ahead, as it was dependent on a minimum amount of league games being played. A review was held back in December and it was agreed that this cup competition would go ahead.

If Irlam are to progress to the second round they will face South Liverpool or Litherland Remyca.

The match against Barnton will take place at Townfield Lane on Wednesday night, the 30th March 2022 and kick off is 19:45.

Admission prices are as follows: £5 adults; £3 concessions; Under 16’s go free.
