THE family of a motorcyclist who died in a collision in Belle Vue, Gorton has paid tribute to him.

At around 7am on Tuesday, police were called to Hyde Road, close to the junction with Redgate Lane, after receiving reports of a collision between a Peugeot 208 and a Suzuki motorbike.

Emergency services attended the scene and attempted to treat the driver of the motorbike before he was taken to hospital where he died.

Michael Pilkington died in the crash in Belle Vue yesterday.

He has now been formally identified as 30-year-old Michael Pilkington from Haughton Green.

His family have paid tribute to him saying: “Michael was a loving father to his beautiful son and daughter, partner to Jade, son to his parents John and Lindsay and brother to Natasha and Scott.

“We are struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of our beloved Michael and ask to be allowed to grieve as a family at this time.”

PC Paul Hailwood of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said in a statement on Tuesday: “I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family of the man who has died this morning; my thoughts are with them at this terrible time.

“We are currently working at the scene to establish exactly what has happened and I would ask that anybody who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage please contact the police.”
