A PERSON has died after being struck by a train at Patricroft Station, Eccles.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 1:04pm on Friday 15 December.

Northern Rail have tweeted to say: “Due to emergency services dealing with an incident at Patricroft lines between Manchester Victoria and Eccles are blocked. Metrolink are accepting tickets in both directions. Road Transport is running between Manchester and Newton-Le-Willows.”

Ambulance and Police services responded to a person being struck by a train.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

British Transport Police have not released the name or age of the victim.

Arriva Trains have been disrupted between Manchester Piccadilly and Holyhead/Llandudno.

According to the Office of Rail and Road there were 309 public fatalities in 2016-17, a figure which is down by 2.2% compared to 2015-16.
