Services on the Eccles Metrolink line have currently been suspended due to a fire near Anchorage tram stop.

A section of cable has been isolated on the tram line, a specialist repair team is working with other staff to repair and assess the damage as soon as possible.

Trams from Ashton will continue to run to Deansgate-Castlefield.

Buses are now in use and calling at all stops between Cornbrook and Eccles, tickets will still be valid on commercial buses (33 and 50) and Northern Rail services to and from Eccles.

Currently there’s no information as to when normal tram travel will be scheduled to run again but passengers are being updated via social media, displays and driver announcements.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s Head Of Metrolink Danny Vaughn said in a press release:

“We don’t yet know the exact cause of the fire, but are working closely with the operator to assess and repair the damage as soon as possible.

“While we want to get services up and running without delay, customer safety remains our highest priority.

“We are utilising all our channels to keep customers updated and I’d encourage anyone planning to travel on the Eccles line to check for the latest updates and information before they travel.

This incident has since been resolved.
