A RENOWNED Butchers shop in Bramhall, Stockport has been presented with two trophies by BBC Presenter and food expert, Nigel Barden at the industry’s national – Smithfield Awards.

The Radio 2 contributor presented Corry’s Traditional Family Butchers on Ack Lane East, Bramhall, two Diamond Awards and eight gold medals on behalf of the Q Guild.

Jan, 65, and Neil Corry, 60, owners of Corry’s Butchers won most innovative product and best Gluten free product at the guild’s event at Stationers’ Hall in London.

The Smithfield Awards are awarded by the Butchers Q Guild which attracts more than a hundred esteemed butchers who go head to head every year.

But Jan said creating the winning products wasn’t easy: “As we don’t sell any cooked products we need to think out of the box to come up with creations that our customers all enjoy.

The Corry’s winning food were the Italian Mushroom Stack for Innovation and a Gluten free Chicken Saltimbocca made up of Chicken, Parma Ham and Sage Leaves.

“We are very proud and humbled to win Diamond in two categories,” Jan added.

Before the event, the food was sent to City of Glasgow College where a panel of food and meat experts judged entrants from across the UK.

Neil said: “It felt a real achievement – We have a really good customer base and they are proud of us too. They always ask us what ‘are we entering’ this year.”

Neil took on the family business from his dad nearly three decades ago but says he still relies on his wife, Jan to come up with some of the best ideas.

“My wife Jan is the brains of the product – She designed the winning products. And we’re really proud that we were up against some of the UK’s really big names.”

The couple won the eight gold medals for a selection of different products; Marinated Hanger Steak, Old Man of Hoy Breakfast Stack and Venison Mushroom Stack to name a few.

Speaking about the awards, the BBC’s Nigel Barden said: “Everything I’ve witnessed about the Q Guild of Butchers convinces me it’s an outstanding institution, representing some of the finest butchers the United Kingdom has to offer.

“I’m honoured to be involved with the awards and look forward to celebrating those who are at the zenith of the butchery profession.”
