Salford City made it 20-league games unbeaten after a comfortable 3-0 win against Havant and Waterlooville at the Peninsula Stadium.

Two goals in quick succession from Adam Rooney, Dennis Politic and a last minute screamer from Danny Whitehead saw the Ammies move to within a point of league leaders Leyton Orient.

Salford started the game the brighter of the two teams with the home team dominating possession and creating good chances.

The Ammies were forced into making an early change just 10 minutes into the game due to a Liam Nolan injury who was replaced by midfielder Dennis Politic.

It didn’t take long for the home side to capitalise on their dominance when Danny Whitehead looped the ball over to top scorer Adam Rooney who placed the ball into the bottom left inside the 18-yard-box.

Salford doubled their lead just a minute later when substitute Politic ran at the Havant defence and powered the ball low deflecting in off the post.

The away team saw a lot more of the ball in the second half, however, couldn’t turn chances into goals and never looked like troubling Salford keeper Chris Neal.

A comfortable afternoon was capped off in superb style deep into added time when Danny Whitehead curled the ball into the top right of the net and securing the win.

Manager Graham Alexander praised his side after the game and highlighted the importance of keeping a clean sheet.

“Overall, a fantastic win and I’m really pleased that we kept a clean sheet as well and score three goals, its a good afternoon for us all,” said Alexander.

“We defend as a team so if we ever don’t keep a clean sheet there’s always issues in the team not just in the back four and the goal keeper, its about the team.”
