The record label Ostereo has celebrated a phenomenal second year of business – despite never releasing a record.

The company, which is based at The Landing at MediaCityUK is different to a traditional record label, as this one uses online music fans to promote its artists.

Ostereo are home to 20 international artists, who combined have achieved 400 million music streams and one billion YouTube views.

The company has now expanded their office space to 6,000sqm after their huge success on the online music scene. Growing from a team of two to 21 in the short space of two years.

Ramin Boston Head of A&R at Ostereo said: “Our difference to the rest of the industry is that we focus on streaming and future proof models of making money from music, opposed to trying to concentrate on traditional methods like selling CD’s.”

Campaign manager Jordan Lloyd said: “I think Salford is a great hub in the north for media and creative industries. I would say its unrivaled compared to the rest of the north. If you want to run a creative business outside of London this is where you want to be.

“The expansion is phenomenal, I can’t say I’m surprised, we all work very hard.”

Their most successful artist to come from the label is Korean sensation J.Fla, who since joining Ostereo has seen rapid growth to her online social media presence

She has over 10 million YouTube subscribers and racks up on average 100 million video views per month.

J.Fla currently ranks 54th in the top 100 YouTubers worldwide, having more views per month than Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.

She has even charted in countries such as China, Singapore and USA without ever realising a single.

How does the label actually work?

Ostereo use specially- developed algorithms which connect music lovers and users of streaming services such as Spotify, apple music and YouTube, to the artists they work with by adding their music to popular public playlists.

Ostereo then use their social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and YouTube to promote heir artists and increase fan involvement.

Going on from their expansion Ostereo plan to build photography studios, vocal recording, and equipment that the artists can enjoy.
