On the recent world homeless day, homelessness charity Emmaus Salford received a donation of £1,000. This was following an Oktoberfest fundraiser at Exchange Quay.

What is Oktoberfest?

The event itself raised more than £500. These funds were then matched by the management team at Exchange Quay. This brought the total raised to £1,000  Café on the Quay served up a seasonal Oktoberfest menu including bratwurst and currywurst. All the proceeds from the event were donated to exchange quays charity partner

The Oktoberfest event is part of Exchange Quay’s community engagement programme. The event is only one of a series of events in support of local homelessness charity Emmaus Salford.

Axel Waldecker, Managing Director and responsible for Exchange Quays commented: “We are delighted to support Emmaus Salford with another successful fundraiser at Exchange Quay. We had another great turn out from businesses who enjoyed both the beer and the Bavarian-inspired food.”

What is Emmaus?

Emmaus Salford supports formerly homeless people by giving them a home, work in a social enterprise. Emmaus also gives them the opportunity to help rebuild their lives. The charity operates shops at Fitzwarren Street and Seaford Road in Salford.

Rachel Richardson, the community director at Emmaus Salford, said: “Huge thanks to everyone who organised and attended the Oktoberfest fundraiser at Exchange Quay. The funds raised from this event will support people affected by homelessness as well as vulnerable residents in Salford who are struggling to afford basic essentials such as food and household items.”

According to figures found by Greater Together Manchester from- 2017 to 2018 there were 5,564 homeless people within Greater Manchester. Just in Salford, there are 1,088 individuals who are homeless.
