How local Salford charities are using football to help those less privileged
Charity initiatives Foundation 92 and Emmaus Salford are coming together to help less privileged people improve their health and social skills through football.
The charity aims to help those around the Salford area who have a disability, experienced homelessness and those have committed offences. By using sport, Foundation 92 aims to improve physical and mental wellbeing.

BREAKING-Salford Royal announces 3 new COVID-19 deaths
According to the latest statistics, a further 3 people have sadly died after being diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number recorded at the Salford Royal to 200 in total.
Overall, 87 people have died in the past 24 hours in hospitals across England, with almost half occuring in the North West region alone.
Salford businesses and community show mixed emotions about the new 3-tier lockdown system
With Salford in an area of "high risk" of infection, the government has decreed that Salford and much of Greater Manchester must still abide by rules like the 10pm curfew and rule of six.
For local businesses like pubs, bars, and restaurants, this has led to increased concern over whether they can survive the pandemic.
But for many residents, it's still confusing and difficult to understand why the government has went through with certain policies.

Media City to host BBC's Sports Personality of the Year awards
The BBC has confirmed that the 2020 Sports Personality of the Year awards will go ahead this year, and are set to air live at Media City, on the Salford Quays.
To be filmed in the Dock10 studio, the Sports Personality of the Year awards look back on the year in sport, celebrating the work and success of Great Britain's athletes and sporting stars.
Set to air on December 20th, it's so far unknown whether there will be a physical audience present to attend the ceremony, given the current government guidelines surrounding social distancing and mixing.
“It will only spur them on to work even harder” Salford musicians hit back at Chancellor comments
After controversial comments were made by the Chancellor last week, a number of Salford based artists have voiced their concerns over being told to "retrain" away from the arts sector.
“I think musicians are going to read these comments and if anything it will only spur them on to work even harder.”
The ongoing pandemic has seen vast numbers of those within the arts sector without work and a sustainable income due to the current guidelines on social distancing.

“Everyone understands the benefits green infrastructure will bring” Salford environmental project to complete first phase
The Rain Garden, a Nature-Based Solutions Living Lab at the University of Salford, has nearly been completed, in aims to promote greener and cleaner living in the Salford area.
It aims to improve the wellbeing of the local community and strengthen the understanding of green infrastructure and ecosystems.
“Everyone understands the benefits green infrastructure will bring. It removes pollution from the air and improves mental health. We could see this during lockdown when the air felt cleaner and more people were exercising outside,”

Food Bank provides produce to asylum seekers during pandemic
In collaboration with the Red Cross, the Food Bank organisation has helped feed thousands with the help of food providers, Fareshare, and Tesco Food Cloud.
Founder Yvonne Simms, 71, remains the only original member since its creation, and believes more can and should be done to help those in need, particularly now. “But obviously, we are now in the second wave and I don’t know what’s going to happen this time”.

COVID-19 test centre set to open in Salford
With the rate of infection increasing in Salford and much of the Greater Manchester area, a new COVID-19 testing site will soon open.
The facility is located on the ground floor of Humphrey Booth House, near the Salford Crescent train station, and will only be open for those showing signs of COVID-19.

The House Never Wins: witness a truly unique theatre experience at the Lowry
An intriguing and unique show is coming to The Lowry on the 16th of October, as 'The House Never Wins' looks set to enthrall its virtual audience.
Set in a casino called ‘The House’, a Zoom call full of audience members must pit their luck against the dealer, whilst trying to keep the place standing.
Truly unique, the play puts the power in its audience’s hands – literally – allowing them to twist and turn the narrative depending on their responses to Whatsapp messages, surveys and puzzles.

Salford Red Devils look to end 82 year wait in pursuit of Challenge Cup
The last time Salford Red Devils won the Coral Challenge Cup final was in 1938, a feat that head coach Ian Watson and his men are aiming to repeat this Saturday when they travel to Wembley to face Leeds Rhinos on the big stage.
They last reached the final in 1969, where they were defeated 11-6 by Castleford Tigers.

Health Officials set to decide on Greater Manchester's 'tier 2' lockdown status
According to the BBC and Laura Kuenssberg, health officials are set to meet tomorrow to decide on whether or not Lancashire and Greater Manchester have their current local lockdown changed.
Right now, Greater Manchester is under a 'tier 2' local lockdown, which indicates that there is a high rate of infection present in the area.
But officials are contemplating if Lancashire and Greater Manchester should be moved to a 'tier 3' lockdown level, similar to that of Liverpool: here, restaurants and pubs will be closed, strict travel restrictions imposed, and a ban on household mixing.

“We just love it”- Meet the creative couple helping self-isolators with their new radio show
Jane Wood and Mike Scantlebury are used to being in the radio studio, but for the last few months have been presenting a show which teaches people who are self-isolating how to grow their own food.
“It was a slow start because there weren’t enough people at first but they soon came in. So they had to do things like limited hours in the day and then run an automatic system at night. And gradually they managed to put up shows 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And we’ve just celebrated our 13th anniversary.”
Topics of their recent episodes have included planting seeds indoors to grow for food.

Two Salford Red Devils players test positive for COVID-19
Salford Red Devils have released a statement ahead of their Super League clash against Hull KR.
"Two players have tested positive, and have been required to self-isolate.
The results of a further two players were inconclusive – they are also self-isolating as a precaution, ahead of further information being received." announced the club via their website.

Nominations for the awards close on the 20th of November 2020 and the finalists will then be announced on the 18th December 2020. The public vote then opens on the 18th of December 2020, closing on the 19th of February 2021.

Bonfire night at home: firework shows in Salford cancelled due to COVID-19
The annual bonfire night celebrations have been cancelled by Salford City Council, due to current COVID-19 regulations and advice.
Fireworks were meant to be launched on the 5th of November to commemorate the foiling of the infamous 'Gunpowder Plot' of 1605, but seemingly no celebrations will be taking place in the Greater Manchester area.
Residents are being encouraged to stay safe and responsible this bonfire night, and to avoid hosting private parties and launching their own fireworks

COVID-19: An insight into how it has affected Salford
In the wake of the government announcing a new 'tier' system of local restrictions, Salford has been placed under 'tier 2': indicating a high rate of infection is present in the area.
Like much of the country, Salford's total number of cases declined over the Summer, but has risen exponentially in the past few weeks. The City has now recorded over 4,500 active cases, making it one of the most affected areas in Greater Manchester.
The government's handling over COVID-19 has been scrutinised by both Salford City Mayor Paul Dennnett and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, with Burnham calling Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s handlings as ‘Disgraceful’ and ‘Disrespectful'.

RUGBY: Hull KR vs Salford Red Devils delayed by 1 hour, Kickoff is now 3pm
Salford Red Devils have announced that this afternoon's Super League game against Hull Kingston Rovers has been delayed by 1 hour, with the game now kicking off at 3pm instead of 2pm.
Both teams' reported the news on social media, stating that the reason for the delay was due to the clubs awaiting some finalised COVID-19 test results.
