Invasion for Student Minds

Team members at a Salford travel company, Invasion, are running the distance from Manchester to Amsterdam to try and raise money for Student Minds.

The 720-mile run will be done throughout November with the aim to support students during the winter months.

With 10 days left to go, Invasion are hoping to reach the target of £1000.

Frances Wood,24, Invasion team leader said: “We are a travel and events company that specialises in taking students away all over the world.

“We are a young office, so mental health is a talked about topic, everyone is really passionate about it.

“For every student that we take away we donate £1 to student minds. We started this last year and it’s been massive, we are really pleased and really proud that we are able to donate to them and help such an amazing charity.

“We Raised nearly £2,000 this year for them. Unfortunately quite a lot of trips got cancelled as we are not able to take students away during the pandemic.

“But we wanted to carry it on, so we were trying to figure out ways that we could still try to donate to them without people travelling.

“It’s quite a nice chance for the team to get out there during lockdown. It can be quite hard even for staff during the pandemic who are working from home.

“But it’s also given us an opportunity to raise money for students that may be struggling during the pandemic”.

Frances Wood said the choice of charity was based on the staff’s own experiences with their mental health during university.

“Student minds fitted really nicely with our passengers. We work with students, universities and student unions.

Student Minds is the UK’s student mental health charity that empower students and members of the university community to look after their own mental health and support others who may be struggling.

One member of staff taking part in the run has said how it’s helped him stay motivated during lockdown.

Jake Bendix, 19, operations and accounts assistant said: “It’s been really good as I’ve said going back into lockdown now, it’s helped to keep me motivated.

“It’s given me a reason to get up and out of the house and get some fresh air. It has really helped me mentally”.

Invasion are also organising an event next summer called Wellnergy. Which is a festival that brings together mindfulness, fitness, food, music and laughter in a holistic experience.

They are keen to have Student Minds involved in the festival to inform and teach people about the importance of looking after your mental health.
