Salford City co-owner Paul Scholes is on a 23-man shortlist which could see him inducted into the newly-formed Premier League Hall of Fame.

Scholes, 46, who played almost 500 games for Manchester United during his 20-year career, is joined on the illustrious list by another Ammies co-owner, David Beckham.

Six of the 23 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame along with Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.

Salford-born Scholes won 11 league titles over three decades while at United, contributing 107 goals and 55 assists in his time at Old Trafford.

Fans will get to decide the six that will join the club, with Scholes up against fellow former United players Roy Keane and Eric Cantona.

The former midfielder was recently appointed Salford interim manager, where he took charge of five games between October and November, winning two of these.

He left when City appointed Richie Wellens, but has continued his joint investment of the club along with the other Class of 92 members Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt.

Fans of United and Scholes have applauded his inclusion on the list and have take to social media to express their delight.
