Angry residents have taken to Twitter to complain about trees being chopped down in Salford Greenway.

They claim the work has taken place without any previous notice to people in Winton and has increased noise from nearby M60.

Resident Joanne Trowbridge appealed to Salford Council via Twitter about the damage done.

She tweeted: “This damage was today… apparently Enviroflow on behalf of highways England have another 5 days’ work ahead of them doing this.”

Salford City Council replied, “This land doesn’t belong to Salford Council, it is owned and maintained by Highways England Agency.”

Joanne added: “@HighwayNWEST would you like to comment on a great piece of work you have completed today, with no notification to residents??”

We are yet to hear a response from Highway North West.

The Greenway at the end of Grange Road is a local spot for walkers. The pedestrian route connects multiple communities of Salford, including Brookhouse and Peel Green.
