Pitch academy held at Eccles library

Attendees to Eccles library’s podcasting event this month have the chance to win two tickets to England vs France’s Rugby League World Cup fixture.

The library is offering tickets to the game that will take place at Bolton Wanderer’s University of Bolton Stadium on the 22nd of October. Attendees to the podcasting event, taking place on the 18th of October between 14:00pm and 15:30pm, will be entered into a draw, where one winner will receive two tickets to the game a few days later.

The podcasting event is taking place in collaboration with Forty20, which is an illustrated rugby league magazine that releases monthly to readers. The team behind the magazine also runs an almost daily podcast, with their most recent series being comically named ‘Forty20 LIVE’s Almost Daily World Cup Podcast’ in the run up to the impending tournament.

Phill Carry, Library Development Officer said: “The library isn’t just about books and I think this is helping to show that we can offer more to the community. Places like this are getting fewer and fewer. Its important that the locals know that.”

The event at Eccles Library will be guested by regular Forty20 LIVE hosts, Richard Shaw-Wright and Phil Caplan, as well as some extra special guests as they look forward to the aforementioned World Cup tournament. The tournament started on Saturday, with England taking a massive 60-6 victory over Samoa at St James’s Park.

Phill also said: “The Podcast coming to the library is encouragement for the local community to get involved in rugby and it’s great that national events such as the Rugby World Cup is coming to our doorstep.”

One of the presenters Richard shaw-wright presenter of the Forty20 podcast said: “The live podcast is a part of the rugby World Cup cultural festival. A tour in which we’ve visited Leeds and Newcastle to talk about the state of the game and the World Cup.”

Richard expressed the atmosphere growing around the world cup: “People are very excited by the World Cup and this podcast is helping that. There was a great atmosphere at Leeds and the prize draw by the library is great and an incentive for people to turn up and get to see the maybe future World Cup champs.”

He gave an insight to the content of the show: “We’ve got Brian noble former England and Salford coach, Trevor Hunt of Radio Manchester and Danika Priim former England women player are the members of a star studded panel and the audience will definitely leave knowing more about rugby than they did going in.”

For anyone looking to see a game a little closer to home, the final is set to take place at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground.
