In the FA Cup first round, the Ammies will travel to League One’s Peterborough United.

This will be one of the biggest fixtures in Salford City’s history, as The Posh compete in League One, a higher division than Salford have ever been in.

Peterborough were in the Championship last season, but a late run of form wasn’t quite enough to keep them in the second tier of English football.

If the Ammies were to beat Peterborough, it would be a fantastic underdog story, as Salford sit 7th in League Two whereas their opponents are 4th in League One.

Away ends at stadia are increased for FA Cup ties so plenty of the Salford City faithful will be able to follow their team to the East Midlands for the big occasion.

Yesterday’s draw produced many mouth-watering ties which could produce yet another famous weekend of ‘cupsets’, where a footballing David could beat a relative Goliath. For example, the National League North’s Curzon Ashton (6th tier) face off against League One’s Cambridge United.

If Salford progress, they could reap the rewards of an increased attendance as the FA Cup 2nd round takes place on the weekend of Saturday 26th November, by which time the FIFA World Cup will have kicked off.

Therefore, the Championship and Premier League seasons will be paused so supporters of these teams may wish to take in the romance of the FA Cup and watch a side like Salford City.
