Salford’s historic Wardley Hall has begun a conservation project that aims to bring the community together.

From building log cabins, helping move discarded trees to helping water plants and flowers. If you are into the outdoors and helping others then Wardley Hall is for you.

The conservation will help the environment and will re-use items that would otherwise be discarded.

The Worsley Manor House will welcome anyone who is willing to come down and help the team.

James Burrowes, a resident at Wardley Hall, said: “We have got this great big house, it’s crazy that there’s only me living here. We asked the local people in the diocese what they wanted to do with it.

“Lots of people wanted to use it but we decided to use it for the best and follow Pope Francis’s “Laudato si” (Praise be to you) which is all about responding to the environment. I didn’t want the idea of “Laudato si” to be gathering dust on a shelf so I decided to put it into life with the conservation of the gardens.

Lots of Activities for everyone to get involved in at Wardley Hall

“We have space to create lots of useful things such as multipurpose space for public events. We also want to have therapeutic interventions, music therapy also.”

Their aims for the future are high. Mr Burrows said: “We aim to work with asylum seekers and refugees. We already have an outdoor classroom for young people to come and learn new skills. We want to also start providing training sessions on conservation for young people to get involved in.

“We love the idea of this because there’s nothing similar in the North West, never mind in the rest of Manchester. This location can provide everything that kids just can’t get in Manchester with all of this greenery and forestry.

“There seems to be an increasing number of volunteers but the more the merrier. We want to bring the community together by launching a ‘go active’ recruitment campaign to boost people’s skills and help the conservation of the local woodlands of Wardley Hall.”
