This Christmas in Salford mums who are struggling to buy toys for their children will be able to get free toys from Verve recruitment.
“The saved money that they would have spent on Christmas presents can be spent on the gas, the electric and the food.”
Verve Recruitment CIC has set up a campaign to help families that are struggling to provide for their children during the cost of living crisis.
With Christmas just around the corner a Knit and Natter group in Wigan gather every Thursday to hand crochet hats, clothes and toys that will keep children warm and happy during the colder months.
One of the knitters Corrina Lukin said: “They will be donated to Salvation Army, they sell them at craft fairs or they give them to children in the local areas.”
Over 100 women who knit have donated over 8000 baby clothes, blankets, and toys to mums in local Sure Start and community centres.
One of the community centres being in the Valley Estate in Swinton which is managed by Anne Pinkey.
Ms Pinkey said: “I had four children, and I can tell you this if someone knocked on my door, knowing that I had had all that knitting and they were bringing it to me, I would have been absolutely delighted to say I would love it, because to get all those lovely little things would be just a great load of my mind.”
The founder of the charity Val Hogan writes an article about every centre that she donates knitted goods to in order to make community centres more of a focal point and to make young mums feel confident to go into them.
She said: “I try to keep everything low-key because, even though mums are struggling, they have pride.
Everyone involved in this campaign are proud to be apart of such an amazing cause.
Mrs Hogan said: “All the ladies want to do is bring comfort to help mums, balance bills, and keep babies warm.
“And if anyone is struggling for Christmas presents then they can take some knitted toys and say that they have come from Father Christmas. And the saved money that they would have spent on Christmas Presents can be spent on the gas, the electric and the food.”
